Four minutes later, crews arrived and discovered a two-story, wood-frame home that had collapsed and caught fire. They immediately worked to extinguish the flames and began searching.

Even after extinguishing the majority of the fire, officials reported that a natural gas line continued to burn. NICOR reacted and turned off the gas supply, allowing staff to work safely.

Following a thorough investigation of the rubble, two people were discovered dead.

According to the Kendall County Coroner’s Office, the victims are presumed to be James Fitzmaurice Sr., 64, and Virgie Fitzmaurice, 62, both of Oswego.

The coroner stated that due to their condition, positive identification, as well as the cause and manner of death, are still undergoing additional investigation.

Multiple authorities assisted on the site, and the inquiry is ongoing. Officials added that more information will be shared as it becomes available.
