A woman from New Matamoras is facing various drug and child endangerment charges after a welfare check in late January, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they responded to a welfare check on Jan. 29 and discovered that the living conditions were in bad shape. During the investigation, deputies discovered drug paraphernalia and controlled substances in plain sight and easily accessible to two youngsters inside the home.
Authorities stated the narcotics included suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl. As a result, Jewels L. Best was arrested.
Monroe County Sheriff Derek Norman underscored the gravity of the situation, stressing that “crimes against children will not be tolerated in Monroe County. ” As Sheriff, I take these instances personally, and I will utilize every legal instrument available to safeguard our kids. I will not tolerate anyone putting a youngster in harm’s path. “Those who do will be held accountable.”
