FBI: 15 people indicted in central Mississippi drug trafficking investigation

Fifteen people have been indicted and taken into custody after a federal and state investigation into an organized drug trafficking operation in central Mississippi.

The arrests were announced by FBI Jackson, which worked alongside the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and several partner law enforcement agencies on the case.

Authorities said the indictments are the result of a coordinated operation to destroy a network that distributes illegal drugs throughout the region. The specific charges and identities of those arrested were not immediately released, but an FBI official confirmed that some of the arrests were in Yazoo County.

“There’s no question our communities are safer today because of these arrests,” officials said in a statement on Facebook announcing the operation. “This investigation underscores the FBI’s unwavering commitment to disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking organizations that threaten the safety of our communities.”

Authorities did not specify what types of drugs were involved or how long the inquiry had been ongoing.

The suspects will be arraigned today, with detention hearings next week, officials said.
