According to court records, the fatal crash happened on June 22, 2025, in Woolwich Township. Prosecutors claim Nyandwaro purposefully rammed a tractor-trailer driven by Osman Aden, a 40-year-old truck driver from Minnesota, following a lengthy dispute on the highway.

The collision sent Aden’s truck into a concrete barrier and numerous trees, killing him on the scene.

Disturbing Evidence Presented in Court

During the sentencing, prosecutors displayed internal dashcam footage from Nyandwaro’s truck, which allegedly showed him smiling shortly after the incident as he continued driving. Witnesses stated that Nyandwaro repeatedly stopped Aden from passing moments before the collision, turning the incident into a tragic act of road rage.

After fleeing the scene, police said Nyandwaro attempted to conceal truck damage with duct tape, cleaning chemicals, and paint, and initially lied to his employer about the incident. He surrendered to authorities a few days later.

Guilty Plea and Sentence

Nyandwaro accepted a plea deal in December 2025, pleading guilty to second-degree reckless vehicular homicide. On January 30, 2026, William Ziegler, a Superior Court judge, handed down a six-year sentence.

Under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, Nyandwaro must serve at least 85% of his sentence—roughly five years and one month—before being eligible for parole.

Possible Deportation After Prison

According to court records, Nyandwaro is not a United States citizen. Therefore, upon completion of his term, immigration authorities may initiate deportation proceedings to Kenya, thereby compounding the serious immigration consequences of his criminal conviction.

Broader Impact

The case has rekindled debate in both the trucking business and the diaspora communities regarding road rage, professional highway behavior, and the serious legal repercussions of irresponsible driving. Prosecutors highlighted that the punishment underscores the seriousness of using a large commercial vehicle as a weapon on public roadways.
