Police: Florida Mother Arrested After Allegedly Leaving 2 Children In Uber For Hours

A 32-year-old Florida woman was taken into custody charged with child neglect after police say she left her two young children unattended in an Uber vehicle for many hours while intoxicated, according to local officials.

Emily Sabogal was arrested Friday night in Sunrise, Florida, and charged with two counts of child neglect and abandonment, authorities said.

The children’s father, who did not want to be identified, told Local 10 News that police notified him after a sergeant called his family about the event. According to the report, the father felt that this type of activity had been going on for a time but lacked proof.

“The sergeant called my mom, explaining that my children’s mom was arrested and that she had left the children inside an Uber driver’s car,” the father told Local 10 News, adding that Sabogal was allegedly drunk or drinking at the time.

Sabogal appeared before a judge on Sunday, who imposed a bond of $1,500 for each charge. She has since posted bond and was freed from jail.

The father stated that he intended to pursue full custody of his children and expressed concern about his ex-partner’s behavior.

“Moving forward, she needs help. I don’t understand how someone in their right mind would do something like this,” he said. “She’s obviously not OK, and this needs to end.”

The details surrounding the Uber driver’s conduct and the children’s condition remain unknown. However, a local ride-sharing driver expressed extreme dissatisfaction, adding that he would never tolerate such a circumstance, especially when children are involved. He believes that both the mother and the Uber driver were irresponsible.

“While I understand the importance of earning a living as an Uber driver, and many depend on the service, this situation is simply irresponsible on the part of all adults involved,” the local driver, who also works for Uber Eats, commented.
