Following an investigation into the suspicious injuries of two children at a Roseburg special needs school, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested two teacher assistants on Thursday.
Erich Michael Hoque (23) and Brian Joseph Marsters (60), both of Roseburg, are being held in the Douglas County Jail on charges of fourth-degree assault and first-degree official misconduct.

Deputies observed both children playing behind large rolled-up mats adjacent to a wall during a physical education lesson.
Marsters, the school’s instructional assistant, allegedly rushed at tremendous speed and slammed into the mat, pinning the first child between the mat and the wall and injuring him. Hoque, another instructional assistant, inflicted identical injuries on the second child.
Deputies questioned both men, who denied injuring the two children, and they were arrested without incident on Thursday.
