Woman and man killed on Valentine’s Day in North Carolina identified; victim’s ex taken into custody in Ohio

Authorities in Moore County on Sunday released the names of victims in a Valentine’s Day double killing in the Woodlake community—and revealed a link between a slain woman and the murder suspect who was taken into custody in Ohio hours after the killings.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. Saturday at a home on Daphne Lane near the shoreline of the former Lake Surf, roughly 3 miles east of Vass, according to a news release from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the gated community and discovered a woman and a man dead from a shooting. The suspect fled the scene.

The two victims were identified as Kateryna Tovmash, 21, of Vass, and Matthew Wade, 28, of Hamilton, Mississippi, according to a Sunday news release. The double shooting occurred at Tovmash’s residence.

Wade was stationed at Fort Bragg, deputies stated.

Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh, 25, fled soon after the killings, but Moore County deputies worked closely with Ohio officials to apprehend him hours later, according to the release.

Moore County deputies said Fosnaugh and Tovmash were previously involved in a relationship in Ohio.

Deputies obtained warrants against Fosnaugh on Saturday for two charges of murder and breaking and entering for unlawfully entering Tovmash’s residence.

“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office asks the community to keep the families and loved ones of Kateryna Tovmash and Matthew Wade in their thoughts and prayers,” the news release said.
