Woman Who Posed As Immigration Officer Arrested And Accused Of Stealing Nearly $40,000 From Houston-area Families

A Houston-area woman says a chance conversation at a taco truck turned into months of fear, financial loss, and claimed threats against her family.

Pasadena police now say they believe she isn’t the only victim.

Detectives apprehended Irma Aide Hernandez on criminal theft and retaliation charges. Investigators said at least five victims have come forward thus far, with reported losses totaling roughly $40,000.

Police are asking anyone who may have been targeted to contact their local law enforcement department.

The woman who spoke with KPRC 2 requested that her identity be preserved because she is still terrified.

She claims she became a US citizen at 19, but her spouse did not.

The couple has been married for 23 years and has three children who are US citizens. She claims that for approximately 17 years, her husband attempted to resolve his immigration status through legal means but was not eligible for pardon under previous rules.

She says the laws changed, and he finally qualified. He was accepted last March. However, the procedure was lengthy and unclear.

The woman claims she and her husband had stopped to eat near a taco truck on Edgebrook Street when another woman approached them.

She said they had a vehicle with Nuevo León plates, and the woman started asking questions. According to the victim, the woman stated she worked for immigration and could help with expedited paperwork.

Pasadena police say that claim was false.

According to Detective John Jernigan of the Pasadena Police Department’s financial crimes division, the suspect allegedly presented herself as someone connected to immigration.
