According to WFIE, a jury convicted Kegg in January of two counts of murder in the shooting deaths.

Firefighters discovered the victims’ remains inside their burning home on January 1, 2025, according to WEHT. Investigators discovered that both died from gunshot wounds and that the fire was purposefully started. According to court documents obtained by the Evansville Courier & Press, a combustible substance was thrown over the victims in an apparent attempt to conceal the murder.

According to WFIE, autopsies indicated that both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest. Authorities found a shotgun and three expended shells at the scene. According to reports, Michael Kegg III sustained many scalp lacerations, indicating a battle.

The killings took place roughly two weeks after Kegg Jr. and Malisa Kegg attended a divorce hearing, according to WEHT. According to court records quoted by local media, Kegg Jr. contacted city officials the day before the killings to have utility service turned off at Malisa’s address.

According to Law & Crime, Kegg Jr.’s then-wife, Amanda Kegg, is accused of driving him home while he left his phone behind in an attempt to disguise his whereabouts. She has pled not guilty to the murder and conspiracy allegations.
