Oregon Man Sentenced To Prison After Forcing Disabled Victim To Sell Snacks In The Cold For His Profit

Jack Patrick Hauser, 47, of Hillsboro, was sentenced to two years in jail on Friday for coercing a 26-year-old man with developmental disabilities into servitude.

According to accusations from community members, Hauser has been forcing the disabled man to sell snacks outside the Hillsboro Esplanade shopping area since 2023.

Hauser was detained on August 27, 2024. He had also been convicted of third-degree statutory rape in 2003, but he did not disclose himself as a sex offender when he relocated to Hillsboro.

Hauser, who is not related to the crippled man, seized charge of his life when his mother died. Court documents show that Hauser damaged the victim’s government-issued ID and withheld supplies to force him.

Under Hauser’s supervision, the man occasionally sold snacks in front of the shopping center for days at a time, but he lacked housing and proper clothing. Hauser pocketed most of the profits, and the man was forced to sleep in a shed or a car, with no access to electricity or running water when not working.

After Hauser pled guilty to human trafficking and failing to register as a sex offender, Washington County Judge Brandon Thompson imposed the two-year term.
