The two teenagers discovered dead by sanitation workers on Monday were both Jackson Public School students, according to authorities.
Garbage truck operators discovered the dead on the side of S. Springdale Road, in a remote area of Hinds County.
The two have been identified as Terry Burrell, Jr., 16, and Khloe Hudson, 16.
According to investigators, the pair had been reported missing to the Jackson Police Department within the last 24 hours.
Both teenagers had been shot several times.
On Tuesday, Sheriff Jones stated that the two teenagers were transported to the spot together and that a church is nearby.
Why the culprit, or suspects, chose that spot is still unknown.
Burrell and Hudson were Jackson Public School students that attended Lanier High School.
JPS issued a statement on Tuesday, saying, “Our hearts are with their families, friends, and the entire school community.”
The crime is being investigated by several authorities, including Capitol Police and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.
There is currently no suspect description, and authorities are requesting the public for any assistance they may supply.
