A tourist from Chicago was brutally beaten and robbed outside a Miami Beach hotel in a horrific crime captured on surveillance video, according to WSVN News. The suspect, now in custody, repeatedly struck and kicked the victim while his girlfriend yelled for him to stop, according to police.
Authorities said the incident unfolded late Sunday night outside a popular hotel on Miami Beach. The victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was standing outside the building when a man approached and began hitting him without warning. The suspect repeatedly struck the victim in the head and upper body while he lay defenseless on the ground, according to video from the incident. The assailant’s girlfriend was heard pleading with him to stop while the abuse continued.
Following the assault, the attacker allegedly snatched the victim’s phone and luggage before fleeing the scene. The victim was eventually treated for a variety of injuries, including facial trauma and bruising, authorities said.
Police in Miami Beach reported that the offender was arrested hours after the event occurred. Detectives identified him using surveillance footage and witness statements, and the arrest was described as rapid and well-coordinated. Authorities have not revealed the suspect’s identity or described the allegations, but they say he faces many counts, including armed robbery and aggravated violence.
Both locals and visitors were outraged by the incident, which highlighted growing safety problems in Miami Beach’s tourist districts. Following a string of violent incidents targeting out-of-town tourists, officials have announced an increase in patrols around hotel zones and nightlife areas. “This was an unprovoked and brutal act,” a police spokesperson stated. “We’re grateful that the suspect was caught quickly and that the victim is expected to recover.”
The inquiry is ongoing, with police scrutinizing evidence and security footage.
