Police said officers were dispatched just after noon about a serious domestic assault in the 700 block of North Market Street.

“I happened to look that direction, and all I know, it was a female, really in distress, and she was yelling, ‘Help me, let me out,’ or something and I saw her at the door, and the next thing I know, she disappeared and the door was shut,” said Doug Middleton, who lives just a few doors down from the house at the center of the commotion Tuesday.

The first two Loudonville cops on the scene were able to apprehend the offender using their tasers. Officers discovered the assault victim in the home after he was arrested.

“I heard one of the policemen say, ‘Don’t move or we’re going to tase you again,’ or something,” said Middleton.

According to police, the victim of the assault was carried to a helipad by Loudonville EMS before being flown to Summa Hospital in Akron with life-threatening injuries.

EMS took the suspect to UH Samaritan Hospital for evaluation before transporting him to the county jail.

Because of the victim’s severe injuries, various law enforcement organizations were called in to assist, including the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, the Ashland Police Division, the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Loudonville Police told 19 News on Wednesday that they would provide an update on the charges on Friday.
