Ohio–Indiana Weather Alert: 3-5 inches of snow and 45 mph winds expected by Wednesday

This morning, a steady wind hums through the Ohio fields, preparing the region for its first taste of December winter. The skies will remain clear today, but by midweek, weather will get significantly colder and snowier in regions of east Indiana, northern Kentucky, and central Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, severe winds of up to 45 mph are expected Wednesday, followed by numerous rounds of accumulating snow from late Wednesday until Friday night. While totals are unknown, forecasters warn that 3-5 inches may accumulate in sections of central and western Ohio, particularly north of I-70.

Travelers should allow extra time Wednesday afternoon through Friday. Bursts of snow can reduce visibility quickly, and wet pavement can refreeze overnight, resulting in treacherous conditions throughout the morning commute. Winds will make it feel much colder, with wind chills approaching zero by Saturday morning.

“Very cold air will filter into the region by the weekend,” forecasts predicted, adding that temperatures might remain below normal well into the next week. Residents are advised to check furnaces, layer up, and carry emergency kits in vehicles in case of travel delays.

Five-day Outlook (Wilmington, Ohio):

  • Tuesday: High near 39°, partly sunny.
  • Wednesday: High 42°, breezy with rain changing to snow.
  • Thursday: High 32°, mostly cloudy, chance of flurries.
  • Friday: High 30°, chance of snow.
  • Saturday: Cold and mostly cloudy, morning lows near 7°.
