Snowfall Of 1-3 Inches Forecast In Parts Of Ohio, Kentucky And Indiana By Friday Morning

The National Weather Service in Wilmington predicts a period of light to moderate snow beginning Thursday night and lasting until early Friday morning, potentially affecting travel throughout the Tri-state area.

The heaviest snowfall is forecast in an area spanning southeast Indiana, southwest Ohio, and northern and northeast Kentucky, where 2 inches or more may accumulate. The NWS map shows that areas within the pink-circled zone are most likely to have greater totals.

Snow is expected to begin about 8 p.m. Thursday and continue until the early morning hours Friday. The Friday morning commute may include snow-covered or icy untreated roadways, particularly in rural and mountainous regions.

Forecasters caution that even light precipitation, especially around rush hour, can cause hazardous traffic conditions. Bursts of heavy snow may also temporarily impair visibility.

Residents in Dayton, Cincinnati, Portsmouth, and Maysville should allow additional time for travel Friday morning and exercise caution on untreated roads and bridges.

After the snow stops mid-morning Friday, temperatures will continue near or below freezing, delaying melting throughout the day. Another weak system may bring further light snow possibilities later in the weekend.
