South Carolina Weather Alert: Flurries Expected Thursday Morning

A strong cold front is anticipated to pass over central South Carolina from late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing substantially cooler air and the possibility of light snow flurries or showers early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Columbia.

According to a Tuesday update from the National Weather Service, a short window may form when cold air behind the front momentarily coincides with leftover moisture, giving ideal circumstances for flurries. Forecasters underlined that no snow accumulation or substantial consequences are forecast because surface temperatures are likely to remain around or slightly above freezing.

The highest possibility of flurries appears to be early Thursday morning, primarily in the northern Midlands. Any snow showers that do form are likely to be brief and light, with most areas receiving little more than a few flakes mixed with rain.

The system is being propelled by a powerful cold front moving southeast, followed by a rush of colder and drier air. While moisture will be minimal, the National Weather Service stated that the atmospheric conditions are sufficient to warrant monitoring, especially given the cooler temperatures expected behind the front.

Travel disruptions are not predicted at this time, and forecasters do not predict slick roads or hazardous conditions. Residents are encouraged to be vigilant of shifting weather conditions, especially in the early morning hours on Thursday.

This front indicates the start of a colder pattern in the region, with temperatures falling below normal once it passes. The National Weather Service recommends citizens to be informed by checking updated predictions as time and coverage details become clearer.

Commuters, students, and early-morning professionals across the Midlands should be informed rather than concerned, as any snowy precipitation will be brief and restricted in extent.
