Illegal Migrant Trucker With New York CDL Apprehended After Horrific Indiana Pedestrian Crash

Immigration agents have apprehended yet another illegal migrant truck driver suspected of causing a horrific accident on US roadways.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended Sukhdev Singh, an Indian national living illegally in the United States, earlier in March after he allegedly caused a traffic accident that left a US citizen hospitalized and critically ill, the Daily Caller News Foundation has exclusively learned. Singh earned a commercial driver’s license in New York before crashing a large truck in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“It is common sense: illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on American highways. We are praying this individual makes a full recovery,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement provided to the DCNF.

“It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don’t know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating 18-wheelers on America’s roads,” Bis continued. “Sanctuary governors like Kathy Hochul must stop giving illegal aliens driver’s license before even more Americans get injured or killed.”

According to the DHS, Singh, 25, was driving a semi-truck on March 6 when he reportedly hit a pedestrian on Interstate 65. The victim was taken to a local hospital as Indiana State Police, which works under state statutes that encourage close collaboration with ICE, contacted immigration officials.

ICE arrived at the scene later that evening and took possession of the Indian national, according to DHS. It’s unclear when Singh unlawfully entered the United States, but records show he received a non-domiciled CDL—the type of commercial license used by illegal migrant truckers—from New York officials on January 2, 2025.

The Indianapolis bust is the latest in a line of catastrophic or fatal highway incidents reportedly caused by undocumented migrant truck drivers. In early February, an illegal migrant trucker allegedly killed four Amish members in Indiana, following other fatal crashes in Florida, California, and elsewhere.

The situation has caused the Trump administration to take drastic measures to keep CDLs away from illegal immigrants.

In September, the Department of Transportation (DOT) put tight limitations on non-domiciled CDL holders and stated that a federal audit found “catastrophic patterns” of states illegally providing licenses to foreign truck drivers. In February, the DOT tightened the requirements to keep illegal migrants out of 18-wheelers, implementing new screening procedures and closing a loophole that previously permitted foreigners with unsatisfactory driving histories to obtain trucker licenses.

During his State of the Union address to Congress in February, President Donald Trump announced his intention to implement “Dalilah’s Law,” a law named after Dalilah Coleman, a girl who was hit by an illegal migrant truck driver in June 2024 and suffered life-changing injuries.

“Dalilah Coleman was only 5 years old in June 2024 when an 18-wheel tractor-trailer plowed into her stopped car traveling at 60 miles an hour or more,” the president said during the address. “The driver was an illegal alien let in by Joe Biden and given a commercial driver’s license by open borders, politicians and California.”

The day following Trump’s speech, Indiana Republican Sen. Jim Banks introduced Dalilah’s Law and has subsequently collaborated with her father on the bill. Banks has advocated for reform in the trucking business, previously urging the DOT to tighten down on chameleon carriers and establishing a trucker tip line for insiders to report misconduct.

A DOT study released in December found that more than half of New York’s non-domiciled licenses were issued unlawfully. The Trump administration has threatened to withdraw millions of dollars in federal assistance from the state unless officials improve their efforts to combat the epidemic.
