A little girl, the victim of a kidnapping last month, was rescued by police in San Bernardino.
Officials with the San Bernardino Police Department did not disclose a precise date or time of the incident but said detectives responded to a suspected kidnapping in February and swiftly located the suspect.
Body-worn camera footage from the arrest showed cops ordering the male suspect out of the vehicle, his hands raised, as he slowly walked backward toward them before being apprehended and placed in the back of a patrol cruiser.
A video also showed an officer assisting a little girl out of the back of a squad car and taking her inside the station to her waiting mother.
It is unclear how long the perpetrator held the infant before being apprehended.
“The individual involved was not the child’s father, had no legal custody rights, and was not listed on the birth certificate,” the Santa Barbara Police Department wrote on Facebook. “He has since been arrested and charged with felony kidnapping.”
According to investigators, the man knew the little girl’s mother and had previously dated her.
No other information was supplied, including the suspect’s identity.
“We’re thankful for a safe outcome and proud of the teamwork that helped bring this child home where she belongs,” according to police authorities.
