U.S. Customs and Border Protection took over enforcement at the Houston and Galveston ports to recover stolen vehicles from America. Criminal activity involving stolen autos is linked to international trade-based money laundering.

According to MSN, 32 vehicles, including luxury cars and pickup trucks, have been confiscated in Galveston and Houston and are no longer being illegally exported to the Middle East, West Africa, Central America, and South America. The value of the vehicles exceeds $3 million.

Criminals can sell stolen vehicles in foreign countries with a 20% markup. Thieves utilize sales revenues to launder narcotics money. Car sales obscure their trails.

US Customs flags vehicles for inspection. If they pass, they are granted permission to leave the United States. Additionally, agents check the papers for inconsistencies.

Area Port Director Thomas Mahn stated that these interceptions demonstrate CBP’s essential role in defending American neighborhoods and businesses from illicit activity.

Dedicated officers ensure that stolen items do not escape the nation. They also hold those accountable for their acts.

Often, stolen vehicles are not returned in excellent condition or are never recovered. But 32 fortunate drivers are soon to receive answers.
