Indiana State Police have charged a 54-year-old Batesburg, South Carolina, man with stealing almost $1 million from his grandmother, who lives in a Madison assisted living center.
Eric Dyer is charged with felony stealing, money laundering, corrupt business influence, neglect of a dependent, and misdemeanor exploitation of an endangered adult in Jefferson Circuit Court.

Dyer was arrested Thursday morning at a Madison hotel and brought into the Jefferson County Jail.
ISP detectives began their investigation in May 2024, after a financial institution reported unusual activities involving the accounts of an elderly woman from Jefferson County.
During the investigation, detectives discovered that Eric Dyer was appointed power of attorney/legal guardian over his grandmother in 2021, who lived in an assisted care facility in Jefferson County.
According to bank records, Dyer took nearly $1 million out of his grandmother’s bank accounts between 2022 and 2024 for personal use. Dyer was also found to be delinquent on his monthly payments to the grandmother’s assisted living home.
Indiana State Police Detectives received assistance from the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office and Indiana Adult Protective Services.
Dyer is still jailed in Jefferson County Jail on a $250,000 full cash bond.
