Around 3:34 a.m. on September 20, Auburn troopers saw a suspicious car parked on the side of State Route 34 in the Town of Sennett. The vehicle was a 2021 Ram pickup truck registered in Florida. It had its hazard light on.

Troopers made contact with Mittifer. Police claimed he “displayed obvious signs” of intoxication.

Troopers found a Glock 19 handgun with a defaced serial number in Mittifer’s waistband. He was then brought into prison. Additional guns were discovered during a search of his pickup truck.

State Police reported that while troopers were on the scene, Cayuga County dispatchers received a report of shots fired near 7220 State Route 34. Officers and officers from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office discovered 9mm round casings in front of Mistifer’s vehicle.

They also discovered “multiple” gunshot holes in neighboring traffic signs and damage to a home’s siding. The pistol recovered from Mitstifer’s vehicle was found to have been “recently fired.”

The subject was transported to the State Police Auburn barracks for processing. According to police, he refused to take a sobriety test, became uncooperative, threatened officers, and made racist slurs.

Mitstifer was arraigned at Cayuga County Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail until additional court proceedings.
