Police Offer Reward For Info On Child Who Missing 25 Years Ago From Central Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania State Police are offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can help them solve the 25-year-old disappearance or find Eric Wayne Pyles, who went missing 25 years ago.

Pyles, also known as Nick Cagnow, went missing in Jonestown on December 12, 2000, after getting off the school bus near his home on Awol Road.

According to police, the 12-year-old wandered south of Awol Road via the backyard of a house on Silvertown Road, rather than toward his home.

The secretary of Jonestown Bible Church, located near his home, later discovered him at 2:45 p.m.

Pyles, who initially resided in Luray, Virginia, has not been visible since. At the time of his disappearance, both of his parents lived in Luray.

According to a missing persons database, Eric was living with his half-sister in central Pennsylvania after a court in Luray granted her and her then-husband custody of him in 1999. Life with Eric’s parents was described as “chaotic.”

After Pyles relocated to Pennsylvania, his older sister enrolled him in counseling sessions and attempted to place him in a residential treatment center to address his behavioral issues.

Eric frequently ran away but always returned when it became dark.

According to the Charley Project missing person website, Eric’s sister passed a lie detector exam in connection with his disappearance, and authorities do not believe she was involved or injured him before he left.

Police in Pennsylvania have contacted Virginia authorities several times, but there is no evidence Eric ever traveled there. Following his disappearance, state police claimed there was no evidence of criminal play. It is considered a cold case, but the police are still working on it.

Police produced an age-progressed composite of Pyles’ possible appearance today.

Anyone with information should contact Pennsylvania State Police in Jonestown at 717-865-2194 or 1-800-472-8477. Online tips can be sent through the Pennsylvania State Police tip webpage.

Tipsters may be eligible for a financial reward from state police for information that leads to an arrest, solves a crime, or locates a fugitive or missing person.
