Snowfall Map: New Winter Storm Brings Fresh Projections For The Northeast

A new round of winter weather is on its way for the Northeast, with new snowfall prediction maps issued Sunday morning, Feb. 15, indicating that the region’s next storm will produce a light but widespread layer of snow.

AccuWeather’s most recent forecast map, posted Sunday, shows a band of 1 to 3 inches of snow projected across the New York City metro region, northeastern New Jersey, and Long Island.

The National Weather Service in New York has confirmed the possibility of light snowfall, with lesser quantities expected north of the metro region and forecasts slightly lower than AccuWeather.

According to current AccuWeather predictions, areas in the darker shade of blue will receive 1 to 3 inches of snow from Sunday night, Feb. 15, through Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 16. The surrounding areas will receive up to an inch of snow.

The fast-moving system, which began in the southern United States, is expected to arrive Sunday night and last through Presidents Day on Monday, February 16. It is anticipated that snow will fall in the evening and continue into the early morning hours on Monday, easing off around lunchtime.

Areas north of New York City, such as the Hudson Valley and southern New England, are expected to receive less than an inch of snow, with most accumulation limited to grassy and high terrain.

Major city streets are forecast to remain generally wet, although untreated roads and bridges may get treacherous, particularly during Monday morning commutes.

Areas further south, including southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland, may experience a mix of snow, sleet, and rain before switching to rain as warmer air arrives.

Location-specific projections project the types of precipitation associated with the late-weekend system.

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast farther south, especially in the Carolinas and Florida.

Residents should watch local forecasts and plan for minimal travel inconveniences. Both the National Weather Service and AccuWeather advised remaining up-to-date because the storm’s track and intensity may change.

Snowfall is forecast overnight Sunday, Feb. 15, and into Presidents Day Monday, Feb. 16.
