Total snow accumulations of 5 inches or more are anticipated, with the heaviest amounts predicted from late Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Interstate 95, I-70, I-83, and U.S. Route 15 may become snow-covered and treacherous Sunday night. During thicker bands, visibility may reduce to less than half a mile.

Travel conditions may deteriorate dramatically after dusk on Sunday.

The Maryland Department of Transportation and the Virginia Department of Transportation are scheduled to pre-treat major highways prior to the evening surge. Snowfall during peak evening hours may cause extensive travel disruptions before sunrise Monday, particularly on bridges and high roadways.

Residents should complete all necessary trips by late Sunday evening and keep an eye on local traffic conditions. Colder air behind the system may keep untreated roads slippery until midday Monday.

The Winter Storm Watch remains in place until Monday AM.
