Illegal immigrant taken into custody after showing up to Florida Border Patrol office for contract IT work

An illegal immigrant who reported to a US Border Patrol site in Florida to do some contract work in information technology was taken into custody after authorities were made aware of his citizenship status, according to officials.

Angel Camacho, a Venezuelan citizen, arrived at a USBP center in Dania Beach, Florida, on January 6 to work on IT when U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers began assessing him, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

During the investigation, investigators discovered Camacho was in breach of US immigration regulations.

“CBP vets all external visitors before allowing them to enter secure facilities to ensure safety and operational integrity,” DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.

“During the vetting process, CBP uncovered this individual was a tourist visa overstay in the country for over five years.”

According to Bis, Camacho was detained and transferred to ICE custody.

He has a criminal history of stealing and restraining a Florida Highway Patrol officer, according to the police. Federal agents apprehended numerous illegal immigrants while they were attempting to find work in law enforcement and education.

A Sierra Leonean citizen was recently detained while undergoing training to become a prison officer in Pennsylvania.

Before ICE detained him, Ian Roberts, another illegal immigrant, served as the superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, Iowa’s largest district.
