A New York woman was convicted of raping and abusing an 11-month-old girl at an Ohio motel and faces up to life in prison, according to authorities.
On April 24, a Summit County jury convicted Jamilee Hunt, 38, of Hudson Falls, of one crime of rape of a child under 13, five charges of felonious assault, and three counts of endangering children. She is set to be sentenced on May 6.
The allegations come from a November 2024 incident at a Red Roof Inn in Springfield Township, where police responded to a call about an unresponsive newborn. Officers saw considerable bruising while doing life-saving efforts, and the youngster was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Doctors discovered many fractures in various stages of healing, a severe brain injury, internal bleeding, and injuries consistent with sexual assault, according to prosecutors.
According to authorities, Hunt originally used a phony name and provided different explanations for the child’s injuries.
“Jamilee Hunt has failed this child. “She failed as a caretaker, guardian, and protector,” Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich declared. “Against daunting odds, the child is alive, safe and continuing to heal.”
Jason Santos, the child’s father, pled guilty to raping and assaulting his 11-month-old daughter before being sentenced to life in prison on April 21.
“Jason Santos was meant to be the child’s protector. Instead, he deceived her in the most vile and brutal way possible,” Kolkovich claimed.
