Police: N.J. couple left their young kids home alone to go out drinking on Memorial Day Weekend

A Hudson County couple left their two young kids home alone on Saturday to go drinking in Atlantic City, according to court records.

According to the probable cause affidavit, authorities in Atlantic County accused the couple, a 38-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man from Union City, of third-degree endangerment or neglect of a child.

Police arrived at a Brigantine residence on Saturday during Memorial Day weekend for a welfare check on children living alone, according to court documents.

Police discovered an 8-year-old and a 1-year-old in the residence who had been alone for more than three hours, according to charging documents.

According to criminal records, officers contacted the couple and found them intoxicated when they returned to their home.

According to police charge records, the man informed officers that they were at an Atlantic City casino.

Officers also discovered two empty bottles of Hennessy liquor on a kitchen table that were accessible to the children, according to criminal documents.

The couple is set to appear in Atlantic County Court on June 20.

The couple’s attorneys were not listed in court records Wednesday.
