Senioritis, everybody gets it at one point or another, it affects everyone in a different way in more or less severe cases. Senioritis is a type of burnout that is defined as the “lack of motivation towards academic studies.” The majority of cases are found in high school or college seniors. Neveah Roby, a senior from Mountain Crest, when asked how senioritis has been for her, said that at the beginning of the year it wasn’t really there, but slowly crept up on her as the year has gone by. And added that, “after new years, reality hit me that I’m gonna be 18 and that I’m actually graduating, and that it’s scary but exciting at the same time.”
Some causes of Senioritis are denial, fear of the unknown, and boredom of school. Effects it can have on a student are: decline in effort, not caring about classes, not caring about grades, which can result in possibly failing a class. By the time students get to their senior year they want to be done and want to get out. A senior that graduated in 2020 says that it is a real thing and can be very overwhelming and it was very hard to continue with the rest of the year while dealing with covid also. She also added “Coviditis was a real thing as well.” Senioritis happens to everyone in some form or another, and they feel as if they need a break from school.
