A 67-year-old hunter from central New York was discovered dead in a tree stand by forest rangers in a New York state park last week, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The man, who lived in Remsen, Oneida County, was hunting in Gilbert Lake State Park in Lisbon, Otsego County, when he went missing, according to the DEC. His spouse reported him missing at 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 16, when he did not return home, according to the report.

Search crews from multiple fire departments, as well as the New York State Police and New York State Park Police, combed the park and discovered the missing hunter dead in a tree stand shortly after 3:30 a.m. on October 17, according to the report. Rangers utilized a rope system to remove the man’s body. His remains were turned over to the Otsego County Coroner.
Authorities did not disclose the cause of death.
According to the state Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the 1,584-acre state park is located in the northern Catskills’ foothills and has mountainous terrain, a lake, and three ponds.
