An inmate at York County Prison beat and strangled a 19-year-old man last week who was there awaiting trial, according to officials and court records.
Officials reported Monday that Jacob Brady, 19, who had been in custody since September 30 on two separate sets of charges, was slain on Tuesday, April 14.
State police are investigating the death as “inmate-committed homicide.”
Police did not give any other information, including the exact location of the beating in the jail, the suspect’s identity, or what occurred before the incident.
According to online court documents, Brady, who was awaiting trial on statutory sexual assault and other counts, has been trying to reduce his $40,000 bond since last year.
On April 10, he was granted a hearing before a court on May 11 regarding his release. However, six days later, it was canceled due to his death.
The prison is located at 3400 Concord Road in Springettsbury Township. This was at least the second death at the prison since September 28, when a 64-year-old man died after being discovered unconscious in his cell. The coroner has yet to announce his cause and manner of death.
