Millimeters From Death

Millimeters From Death

When I was 4, we had just moved into my house and we were unpacking everything. In one of the boxes, there was a binder slider. I loved to play with it and use it as a whistle. As all kids do, I put it in my mouth and went to sit down with it still in my mouth. I was still small enough that I hit it on the chair when I sat down.  It went up the top of my throat and my parents rushed me to the hospital. I had to undergo surgery to get it out of my throat. When it was over, the doctor told my parents that I should not be alive. The binder slider was .7 millimeters from my Carotid Artery. If it would’ve hit my Carotid Artery, I would’ve bled to death.
