President Trump and the Coronavirus

President Donald Trump is expected to make a full recovery after his diagnosis of COVID-19 on October 1st. The President was hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center. Trump’s doctor has said Trump has no “actively replicating

virus”. He may have “remnants of coronaviral debris present” according to sources at NPR. Although the President still would test positive for the virus many experts, including Dr. Amesh Adalja, have said they wouldn’t classify Trump as still having the virus. While the President would test positive for the virus he is no longer contagious and is safe to end his personal quarantine.

President Trump has credited his recovery to the experimental COVID treatment produced by Regeneron. The treatment is most effective on those whose body has not already begun fighting the virus. It adds two different antibodies which are intended to help fight the virus. The company has received over $1 million from sales of stock in the past few days. The President made remarks praising the treatment as a cure which many attribute to the surge in stock sales.

The future of the presidential debates and presidential rallies remain uncertain for the President. The next debate is scheduled for October 15th which happens to be 14 days after Trump’s diagnosis. Some have suggested having a virtual debate for extra caution. Trump however, rejected the idea in a fox news interview saying “No I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate. That’s not what debating is about, you sit behind a computer and do a debate. It’s ridiculous. And then they cut you off whenever they want.”

While the coronavirus has affected millions of lives across America, even our own President and First Lady, it seems that even it can’t stop the presidential race. We will just have to continue on during these challenging times with things such as voting and even just trying to live our regular lives.
