Day in the life of a Ridgeline Cheerleader

Day in the life of a Ridgeline Cheerleader

Ridgeline Cheerleaders put in a lot of work throughout the year. Emily Boron said, “Ridgeline cheerleaders have a very busy schedule and take up a lot of time but it’s still fun!” Hadley Jenson added, “Ridgeline cheerleaders don’t just shake their pom poms, but they do put in a lot of work and it can take really long to perfect everything that they do so it can be hard to juggle school, cheer, and sometimes even work. The cheerleaders practice starts at 1:45 and ends at 4, and don’t get home until 4:15.”

Even though they are busy, both Emily and Hadley said there are good things about cheerleading. “Cheerleading isn’t all bad it’s a good exercise and it’s a good way to go watch the events that they cheer at and you’re with your friends while you’re doing all of that. It makes it even more fun for them.”

Emily said, “football is her favorite event to cheer at because a lot of the students attend and when there is a big student section it makes the game even more fun!” Rhs cheerleaders do also compete. They do competitions in December and January, the competitions are held in Herriman, Utah. They compete in region and state, if they qualify, and some other side competitions as well. Their main focus is region and state because if they do good in region they will make it to state. Hadley Jenson said, “Competition is one of the hardest things about cheer. It takes hard work. You’re doing a 2 minute and 15 second routine that includes stunting, tumbling, dancing, and a cheer, and it is non stop. You also have to keep a smile on your face the whole time, which can be hard sometimes.”  If one thing goes wrong in the performance, even something simple like someone stepping off the mat, then it could make the team lose, which is very hard. Emily went on to say, “Competitions take up most of the time in the year because it’s the most important. We start practice in July or August and we work the routine everyday.” Hadley said “ cheer is fun sport if you’re thinking about doing it I would 100 percent recommend it.”
