Ceramics continues to grow in popularity every year. When Ridgeline opened there were only three available classes. Typical enrollment was around 75 students with only Ceramics 1 and 2 as options. Currently there are 6 hours of ceramics. The classes offered now are ceramics 1, 2, and 3 and there are over 220 students signed up. The ceramics teacher Mr. Christopherson, or more commonly known as Mr. C, said, “People like the challenge of getting better and they end up with something to take home.” He talks about how students enjoy being able to struggle to make the project they envision and when they finally get it how good they feel about themselves. Not only do they get to take something they made home but it’s also something they spent hours working and failing until they succeed. Mr. C also says that ceramics are not typical in most people’s lives so they enjoy the novelty of doing something else. Something not usually in their normal schedule. with AP art student and returning ceramics student, Preston Blisner he was asked what he likes about ceramics, his response was, “It’s fun.”
