Ceramics is one of the most taken classes at Ridgeline and a lot of people have loved taking the class. A lot of seniors have taken it up to five times and are still taking it. There are mostly only two ways to work with clay. The first is to hand build, where you just use your hands and other tools. The best things made with this technique are slab boxes and bowls. The second way is to wheel throw the clay which is where you put clay on a wheel and then you spin it. The wheel throwing is a lot easier for students and they like it more than hand building. The best things made with this technique are mugs or a pots.
Will, a senior at Ridgeline, said that he has taken ceramics three times and he has said that he has loved it. When asked why he loved it so much he said, “I love being able to chill and make something nice with my hands”. When asked what type of clay working he likes to do he said, “My favorite way to work with clay is wheel throwing because it is easier to make something look better when It is wheel thrown.” He followed that up by explaining, “My Favorite thing that I made in ceramics was a mug.”
Preston, another senior at Ridgeline who is in the same class as Will, said he has loved taking ceramics so much. He explained that he has loved taking ceramic classes especially with his friends. He said, “My favorite technique to use in ceramics is wheel throwing.” He said his favorite piece from this trimester was his pot that was made with different mixtures of clay.
